Veterans into Logistics is recruiting for a new HMP Veteran Prison Lead to play a key role in delivering an innovative two-year prison-based employability project across the North West.

The part-time position will see the successful candidate work directly with veterans in custody, helping them prepare for release and supporting their journey towards training, qualifications and sustainable employment within the logistics sector.

Working alongside HM Prison & Probation Service (HMPPS), employers and partner organisations, the Veteran Prison Lead will help create a joined-up pathway between custody and civilian employment.

The role will involve building relationships with prisons across the North West, identifying and supporting eligible veterans and developing personalised employment and training plans based on their individual circumstances.

A key part of the position will be coordinating funded HGV training and pre-release preparation, ensuring veterans have the opportunity to gain the qualifications and skills needed to move towards employment.

Support will continue beyond the prison gates, with the Veteran Prison Lead helping individuals access interviews and employment opportunities while providing ongoing mentoring as they adjust to life following release.

This continued support is an important part of the project, with meaningful employment and greater stability helping to improve long-term outcomes and reduce the risk of reoffending.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication and relationship-building skills, the ability to work independently and experience managing a varied caseload.

They will also need to be passionate about supporting veterans, comfortable working across prison and community settings and hold a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle.

The position is home-based with travel across the North West and will initially be offered on a two-year fixed-term contract.

At 15 hours per week, the role offers a salary of £25,000 pro rata, equivalent to an actual salary of £10,000, with a five per cent uplift in the second year.
