Blues and Royals
Joshua Sale served in the Blues and Royals for around six years, building a foundation of discipline, responsibility, and technical skill.
During his time in the Army, Joshua initially carried out ceremonial duties before moving into recruitment. He later took on the role of a CVRT (Combat Vehicle Reconnaissance Tracked) driver, operating tracked reconnaissance vehicles and developing specialist driving experience in demanding environments.
Like many service leavers, the transition to civilian life brought unexpected challenges.
For Joshua, the biggest difficulty was returning to family life and adjusting to a different sense of identity outside the military. He often felt like he didn’t belong and described feeling like the “black sheep”. His first civilian job proved particularly difficult, he experienced negative attitudes towards being a veteran and was eventually wrongfully dismissed, leaving him in an extremely vulnerable position and at risk of homelessness.

Joshua knew he needed a different direction.
After researching potential career paths, he discovered Veterans into Logistics.
He had always been drawn to vehicles and driving, and HGV driving offered something important. Stability, structure, and a clear route forward.
From the moment Joshua made contact, the support began.
Veterans into Logistics secured the funding for his Class 1 HGV licence and supported him throughout the entire journey, from initial contact and training preparation to test success and ongoing aftercare.
In Joshua’s words:
“Veterans into Logistics have completely changed my life. They secured the funding for my Class 1 HGV licence, supported me every step of the way, and helped me achieve my qualifications. Without their help, I genuinely believe I would be homeless right now.”

Through the programme, Joshua successfully gained both his Class 1 and Class 2 HGV licences, a major milestone that opened the door to sustainable employment.
Today, Joshua is employed full time as a tramper working as a vehicle transporter.
The impact of that change has been profound.
Before starting this journey, Joshua describes feeling depressed, stuck in a dead-end job, and facing the very real possibility of homelessness. Now, he is thriving in a role that provides stability, independence, and pride.
He has nearly doubled his previous salary, can pay his bills without worry, and has taken his first holiday as an adult at the age of 33. Looking ahead, his focus is on continuing to build his future.
Joshua describes the biggest change simply: moving into this new line of work has transformed every aspect of his life.
His advice to other veterans is clear:
“Do not hesitate. Call Veterans into Logistics as soon as you can.”
Joshua’s story is a powerful example of what the right support, opportunity, and belief can achieve.
At Veterans into Logistics, our mission is to remove barriers and create real pathways into sustainable careers. For Joshua, that pathway didn’t just lead to employment, it changed the direction of his life.
In his own words:
“Veterans into Logistics saved my life.”
