Founder & Ambassador
My name is Darren Wright, and I’m proud to be the Founder of Veterans into Logistics, the charity I established in 2020 to help service leavers and veterans build secure, well-paid careers in the UK logistics sector. What began as a personal mission in memory of my friend Jamie Doyle has grown into a national programme supporting hundreds of ex-military personnel into lifelong logistics careers through fully-funded HGV training.
I founded Veterans into Logistics after Jamie, who had served 22 years in the Royal Artillery, was tragically found dead less than a year after leaving the Army. Since then, alongside a dedicated team, I’ve built strong partnerships across the logistics industry to ensure every veteran we support has access to stability, structure, and meaningful employment.
Within our first two years, we were honoured with the Ministry of Defence Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award. We’ve since received major support from partners including Asda, who funded Class 1 training for ten veterans, and The Veterans’ Foundation, whose grant enabled us to replace our ageing fleet with three new Volvo training trucks.
We also work within the criminal justice system, delivering pre-release mentoring and HGV training in several north-west prisons to support veterans exiting custody into sustainable employment, helping reduce reoffending while addressing skills shortages in UK logistics.
Our impact has been recognised nationally, with finalist and award wins at both the English Veterans Awards and the National Veteran Awards.
As Ambassador, my focus is on championing the Veterans into Logistics pathway; raising awareness with partners and policymakers, mentoring veterans, and speaking publicly about the life-changing outcomes our work delivers. Together with our supporters and alumni, I remain committed to turning rock-bottom moments into success stories on the open road.
